Finals Week One – Knights Through to Grand Final, Devils to play Raiders

It was a close but ultimately expected first week of finals as elimination finals and the top of the table qualifier took place. The format change from a single ten minute match to two five minute matches with the option of a third in the event of a tie was aimed to bring results closer together. Pitching for quick fire halves and potentially less goals scored.

The first game was the preliminary game between Knights of Utopia and Midnight Raiders. With the winner to proceed directly to the grand final the contest was hotly contested, but ultimately the minor premiers proved too strong for the Raiders eventually sending them to the premliniary final to face the winner of the third elimination final.

The elimination games saw Wasteland Devils host The Spartans. True Zola was back after a couple of weeks off and despite another heroic defensive effort the Devils were too strong with stand-in Hypershadow19 aiding the attacking game plan to send The Spartans home in straight sets. While in the other elimination final, Second Degree Sharks hosted the Mannfield Marauders. Considered the Sharks bogey team the Marauders took the fight to the Sharks but couldn’t quite get it over the line, the Sharks defensive effort seeing them through to the third elimination final against the Devils in straight sets.

The home field advantage was no help to the Sharks in the third elimination, however, with the Devils running away with the games despite the best efforts of top scorers Scav3nger and Clasfied Hunter to keep the Sharks in the hunt. While a bit of an off day for SlinnShady may have sealed the result, the team captain admits the result is where they expected to finish the season.

So from six teams we are left with just three, and in next weeks Finale Night the Raiders will take on the Devils in the semi-final to determine who will attempt to overcome the behemoth that is the Knights of Utopia.
