Host of the 2016 season opener, the CANZ V8 championships returned to Silverstone for the 2017 Silverstone Triple Sprint. The event was approached with cautious optimism from almost every team and driver, with varying levels of work going into getting championships back on track.
With the triple sprint meaning a quick-fire qualifying the pressure was on to achieve the fastest lap. In the end it would be Caderz starting on pole, his first for the season breaking the duck and firing a warning shot to Drifter that this season’s championship was still a very close fight. If the standings didn’t already tell that story. Drifter achieved second, with Scav3nger third. The Doc showed resurgence achieving fourth ahead of Woebegone6, with Chaos, Dragon, and temporary returnee Clasfied Hunter rounding out the field. Missing from the round was the SM Motorsport pair of Hyboi and Schepdogg.
Race 1 of the round saw limited action, Scav3nger passed Drifter into turn 1 and managed to stay there for the duration of the race while Caderz led from lights-to-flag. Further down the field Woebe and Chaos ended up in a battle, and unfortunately had to pit after an accident on the penultimate lap. Meaning the pair would start from the front for the first of the reverse grid races. Aside from that there was no significant action in race 1.
Race 2 started with a bit of excessive bumping and rubbing, with Woebe and Drifter in contact almost all the way through turn 2. The race from there on settled into a rhythm with the end result seeing Scav3nger come home ahead of Caderz, with Drifter rounding out the podium for the second race running.
Race 3 saw the most action with the full reverse grid format in play. With a short number of laps to make passes stick and faster cars attempting to slice their way through the field. At the end of the race Caderz was able to successfully fend off a late Drifter challenge and help team mate The Doc achieve the top step of the podium and secure the AusGear team its first 1-2 finish of the season. Drifter clean swept the third step on the podium and previous race winner Scav3nger came home fourth.
