Hi everyone,

I need to post this here as I broke our front-facing website (more on that later).

We've been a bit quiet if you've not been around our Discord lately I'd like to take a few minutes to talk about why that is and what's been going on over the last year or so. There's a TL;DR at the end for those of you whom lack the time to read all the details.

What's the hold up?
The last 12 months or so have been quite a stressful time in the personal lives of the team, I won't speak of the others because that's not for me to discuss but I moved between jobs and had quite a steep learning curve that burned me out from anything outside of just doing that job, I didn't have the time or the motivation to organise events for TSG because I was flat from work. We had spent time trying to put systems in place so some aspects of the community could run themselves or at least have minimal input from us and at least keep things ticking along in case something like this happened but we just missed the mark on getting it in place.

So We Back?
There are some developments taking place, not all behind the scenes if you've been keeping track of things on Discord with a loose plan to return to organised online activities in late July/early August. So we not back yet* but it's coming real soon.

CANZStats and RocketSTATS
Part of the plans when it comes to keeping things formulated to be able to somewhat run themselves has been the establishment of an event/competition management platform. Stats has been a pet project of mine for some time now but we're fast approaching a point where I can start to think about how we can use it to manage our more competitive side of things. Starting, of course, with our racing and Rocket League arms but eventually looking at other games as well. Read on for a brief outline of how each Stats platform will aid us in organising things.

CANZStats
As far as organising series goes, the bulk of the work was in structuring everything and doing the results for rounds. When it came to updating championship standings back when we were Regional Gamers League Online Racing Community, that meant manually updating web pages and tables on forums. Hacking together pages with calendars and dates for events, who to contact with queries and the locations for each event. CANZStats automates the generating of a lot of this content. Admins create championships, add rounds at certain locations on specific dates to those championships, and then enters the results after each round. Championship tables are updated automatically and even factor in reports should points deductions be applied. Individual user profiles also track the users stats as part of their overall career so everyone gets a nice overview of their history with CANZ/RGL and eventually we hope to welcome other series onto the platform for them to be able to track their stats too. We're still in early testing for many features but hope to have an early public test build soon.
(For more info and a history of development check out the #statstalk channel on our Discord)

RocketSTATS
This one is a little more open-ended as thought has only started going into it in the last couple of weeks. As far as automating much of this goes we're taking a slightly different approach. Players register on the platform and start as free agents, they can create a team or apply to join a team. There are two formats of competition, ladder and knockout. When a knockout series is organised the teams apply in a first-in-format, the organiser sets the number of teams and the system will generate a knockout bracket based on the Team Rating's (TR's). A TR is determined by the Win/Loss ratio of the team as well as other factors such as Goals For/Against and average winning margin (how this is calculated is to be determined). A ladder format is the standard format for the platform, over a set period of time (determined at the time of creation) the teams will compete in a ladder tournament attempting to reach the top of the ladder by the end of the "season", similar formats to this limit the number of positions you can challenge above you on the ladder and that will be determined by the organiser. There's a bunch more planning to do here but this is the overview. Players will also earn a Player Rating (PR) for their overall career based on their overall stats as well as Match Ratings (MR) for their performances in individual games. We'll have more to talk about with this as we get closer to launch of the RocketSTATS platform.

CANZ Racing
As many might be aware, initially the name was "CANZ Racing Community" where CANZ stood for "Confederation of Australian and New Zealand Racing". We've changed it up slightly and it's now just "Community of Australian and New Zealand Racing". Not a huge change but for us its a perception that we're targeting a more social racing community with a hint of competitiveness (the Sporting Regulations aren't going anywhere) but nothing over the top serious, at least not to start out with. Once we build the community back up we can explore how we organise things.

Socials
Social nights have always formed a big part of the community aspect of TSG, now that a few of us have streaming capable connections (cheers NBN) socials are going to form an integral part of the rebuild phase of TSG's community, so keep an eye out for announcements of upcoming social nights here, Discord, and our social media!

Hello Everyone,

The last 8-10 months have been very quiet, we've lost a bit of momentum as I took some time off to focus on a course I was doing. We're back in business now though. Gearing up for a new year and getting things back on track. Starting with laying out the plan for 2019.

As you can already see, we're back on the old forums. We've lost a little bit of content as the website with the 2018 forums broke during the year and I couldn't recover the content. Hence the main website saying it's undergoing maintenance. That's a good thing though because there's a few changes on that front I was looking to implement for next year anyway so a mostly fresh start (I've got all the posts from the old website so it look like a wasteland when the new site is first up and running) will be a good thing.

With that, let's take a look at what's happening.

Over on our Discord some discussion has been starting up again, looking at where we're going with CANZ next year (more on that below) as well as discussion in the Inner Sanctum with some of our core community on our direction and focus moving forward. So far we've looked at our focus for 2019 being a return to our Forza roots with a 2019 CANZ Supercars series. We toyed with the idea of a GT series but the workload involved with balancing the GT cars into spec with the current size of the racing community meant the Supercars was the more straight forward series to get the ball rolling again. We will be reassessing in 2020 the options for the mainline series.

We've briefly touched on Rocket League. It will be returning in some form but just not sure how at this time.

Social games will become much more of a focus too, with a key interest being easy drop-in-drop-out games on both PC and Xbox. Minecraft is an obvious choice as we can have a server running all the time. And yes, GTA or Red Dead may also be on that list (though I personally don't have RDR2 on my list of games I'm looking at). Though the social aspect and nature of it means that these are things that can be organised at any time and not necessarily by us, it could be anyone in the community organising these events on any game!

So get involved in the discussion and help us gear up for a powerful 2019!

Hello Everyone,

2016 has been a busy year. After the transition from RGL to TSG we've seen a fairly successful first season of CANZ and started our journey on Rocket League (though it's been a bit of rocky start, I'll admit). We've had a few successful nights on GTA with some big turnouts (and some not so big), and we've begun to explore our options for broadcasting some of the social and competitive content for everyone to enjoy.

So, where do we go in 2017? Let's take a look at each section and how things will be changing in 2017.

CANZ:

As we've already started discussing in the 2017 Structure and Changes thread over in the CANZ section we'll be moving to fixed monthly events for both Forza and pCARS for 2017. Whether that changes in 2018 or not to feature more races more often is a future discussion for the 2018 changes thread. The only change that may come at this point is a change to the day in which we will be racing in 2017. A move away from Thursdays would be a pretty big changeup though so we'll be sure to have a discussion about that and how it affects everyone before we change anything.

On the series front, it's looking likely that we'll be doing V8's again in 2017 with Classic F1's as a support series. Our issues with the current season of Rocket League (discussed in full further down) have meant that our plans to run a second Forza test night had to be postponed and given we have a better idea of things we like in Forza over pCARS we'll need to prioritise a second pCARS night so we can determine what we'll be running on that in 2017.

At this stage we are also operating on the assumption that Caderz's F1 2016 series will be running, but we don't have a timeframe or dates worked out for that yet.

Summary:
1st Thursday* of every month is Forza
3rd Thursday* of every month is pCARS
Starts in Feb, ends in Nov
V8's/Classic F1's on Forza
TBD on pCARS (Test night #2 still to be run)

* Day may change

Soccar Championships:

Okay so this is a bit of a big one. I'm prepared to take the blame for the shimozzle this season has been. We had a pretty good idea that we wanted to run a second season before the end of the year after the first season finished but we sat on it for too long and didn't act until it was a case of "Cram it in and rush the planning for it" or "Don't do it and wait for 2017". Unfortunately the decision was made to rush one together with the new draft format and we've seen the end result. Sure a scheduling conflict for what seems to be half of our players didn't exactly help but that's the nature of the beast. I admit that I got this one wrong.

So where does this go from next year?

We've had some rather frank internal discussions, and those are still ongoing. Everything from sticking to the current season on the day we scheduled it, to moving it around to different days to avoid conflicts and even trashing the whole event and starting again in the New Year. We've also had some discussions about some changes to the format which are also ongoing so we can't really announce anything on that front at this stage, however, some changes will be coming. At this stage our plan is to announce officially the new season for 2017 shortly after New Year, if there ends up being a draft we'll be holding it at the end of January, with a late Feb/early March start. Like I say, however, we're still discussing any changes and can't really annouce anything other than that at the moment.

On another front, the BYOT format has been on our mind for a while, and we're going to be trialling something in the first half of the year. So keep an eye out for the announcement for that in the coming weeks.

Summary:
Season II a mess
Changes coming in 2017
New BYOT format trial coming in 2017
Better planning in 2017

Socials and Other Things:

This is a front we've been really lazy on. Social nights should be much more common than we've been making them and we usually get great footage from them to use in any compilations/trailers/highlights so we definitely need to improve on this front. We'll also be making a greater effort to produce video content for our YouTube channel.

Lastly, if anyone has any ideas/suggestions/thoughts/feedback/scrutiny/input/other on anything in this thread or things we could explore don't hesitate to get in touch with us, either reply here or contact us privately. We're always open to fresh thinking and we could definitely use any help if you're interested in lending a hand anywhere (from organising events/socials, to content, anything helps).

Summary:
More socials

End of broadcast,
Like I say, however, we're still discussing any changes and can't really annouce anything other than that at the moment.

So what is Discord and why is there a thread about it?

The use of Facebooks messenger app has become very popular in the community which reduced activity on the forums significantly. While instant messenging has proved to be a very useful tool for organsing our gaming, it is very isolated and is counter productive to tsg being able to grow, as visitors to the website and forum see lack of activity, reducing their ability to engage.

Discord offers all the benefits of messenger, but better in a number of ways.

It is public - so people can join without having to be friends of someone first

A server can be setup with "channels" that enable slightly more focused conversations e.g. CANZ channel or Rocket League channel

It is available to download on IOS and Android devices as well as PC or you can use a web browser.

It has voice chat so cross platplatform gaming is possible such as PC players on Rocket League teaming up with Xbox players using Discord for chat.

You can mention people so they get notifications (handy for reminding peeps when something is on)

It is not intended to replace the forums, rather allow for more freedom in the ways in which we all communicate. The key is for all of us to realise what discussions are forum worthy and to use that platform for them. Scav is also looking into a widget for Discord so people visiting the website can see how active we are on Discord. We still want to see everyone visting the site and checking out the forums often, but lets just see how this all goes.

Hello Everyone.

Just want to drop this here to keep everyone up to date on the latest progress with the website side of things.

In 2017 there'll be a couple of changes rolling out. Firstly, and heavily involving, CANZ. The current subsite was to serve a purpose I feel was not adequately being used for that purpose, increasingly people continue to ask, either directly or indirectly, when an event is taking place and at what time despite that information being available and, in the case of start times, fairly consistent. So canz.screwedgamers.com in it's current format will be closed down at years end, with all news and articles to do with CANZ to now be featured on the main website along with Soccar/Rocket League and general community posts. We'll work in a better structure for all the content on the homepage while we're at it because it's been a bit of a mess this year.

canz.screwedgamers.com will then relaunch as the CANZstats section of the website. When the system is ready.

Also when the system is ready, soccar.screwedgamers.com will also launch, and will be the home of all the Soccar Championship information and stats aside from news which will continue to appear on the homepage.

These changes are all somewhat dependant on the Stats parts of the site being set up, but consolodating all the news onto the one site at the start of 2017 is a part of the plan we can execute in the meantime. As always anyone that is interested in contributing to content (even if it's just taking a few screenshots for news articles) is more than welcome to get in touch with myself or z00lu.

G'day everyone!

So we've been a bit quiet over the Christmas/New Year period, things never really picked up after we all went into food coma's and passed out drunk for New Years. I can't say that because we have underage members. Anyway, WE'RE BACK! AGAIN! So this is my post outlining my overall objectives I'd like to see us achieve as a group in 2016. I'm going to set these rather low for the most part, but there'll be a couple of big ones. There's a TL;DR list at the bottom if you don't want to read my waffle.

So my first objective is pretty straight forward. I'd like to see us get 50 active members on the forums. There's currently 19 registered at the time of posting this thread, so we're almost half way there in registered users. We just need some more activity! So get posting people! This is something I'm hoping will improve once our regular activities recommence, which also ties in to objective 2.

I'd like to see us return to have a full (16 player) lobby by the end of this season's racing. Either on Forza or Project CARS, doesn't matter, we've had it before when it was RGL and I believe we can get back there with a bit of effort on everyone's part. We need to make it a welcoming community with quality racing, so remember to keep it civil.

At the moment, it's not much of a secret that a heavily played game for us is GTA Online, I'm sure we've had (and will have) plenty of highlights, so my third objective is to get four social night highlight reels together for our upcoming YouTube channel. Funny moments, Screwed Moments (yes, they're back too), anything goes as long as you think it's highlights worthy! Also, objective four, everyone join the crew! We still have plenty of members listed as RGLA members who need to switch over to TSGC!

Some of you will be aware we are planning some episodic content of some variety, while things are still in the early stages at this point, I'm making it an objective to get a pilot episode or short film onto the YouTube channel before the year is out. We've got a few ideas so I'm sure we'll be able to get one of them done!

Another big one we really want to see happen is getting a Rocket League league up and running. Not sure how we'll go with this one but we're going to try since Forza removed soccer and we need a replacement!

A big plan for later in the year is looking more closely at establishing the Screwed Gamers Cricket Association and firing up the Crunch Time League on Don Bradman Cricket. We started a league a while back but never really got 100% into it because we started at the tail end of the cricket season. Not this year though!

Lastly, and the only reason I put this last is because I'm not particularly big on FIFA (I only get it every second year), we're going to look into the possibilities of getting a Screwed League up and running on FIFA. The full details won't be available for a while, this is just a rough plan at the moment, pending interest levels.

TL;DR?

Get 50 active members onto the forums
Get a "full" lobby of drivers by season's end (read: 16 drivers)
Make four GTA social night highlight reels
Get all former RGLA crew members into TSG crew (it's TheScrewedGamersCrew in-game in case you were wondering)
Make one GTA short film/episodic pilot
Rocket League League
Form the Screwed Gamers Cricket Association and start the Crunch Time League (on Don Bradman Cricket)
Form the S-League (on FIFA)
Content, content, content! Videos, articles, livesteams! ALL THE THINGS!

Other things on the horizon as potential objectives depending on how we track with the above include:
Getting 100 members
Growing the community to PC and PS4 players, broaden our genre base from racing and sports games
Content, content, content! Videos, articles, livesteams! ALL THE THINGS! (it's worth mentioning twice)

Hey everyone,

Over the next couple of weeks at game nights and race meets we'll be looking for some great footage for use in Screwed Gamers and CANZ intro videos. These will be used at the start of all videos that will go on the Screwed Gamers YouTube channel. Here's what I have in mind:

Screwed Gamers 45 second intro to go with the length of the old podcast intro tune.
Screwed Gamers 10-15 second intro for shorter videos.
CANZ 45 second-to-1 minute intro similar to the old RGL one, would be used on full race replays or live streams (i.e. run the intro while retiring to pits and getting into spectator mode in Project CARS).
CANZ 10 second intro used in any highlights packages and generally shorter videos.

Given we are, at the moment, quite limited in games that we play I won't restrict it to anything in particular, but funny moments from GTA V, or intense battles in Halo, and wheel to wheel action in racing games. Anything you think would make for good intro content. It doesn't even have to be from a game night, any time you have a moment that you think would make a good clip for the intro sequence (or even just a funny moments video in general) grab a clip of it and fire it through.

Hello everyone!

Welcome (back) to the Screwed Gamers Community Forums! WE'RE BACK! If you are returning from our previous existence, welcome back! If you're new and are looking for a group of serious gamers who take their gaming very seriously and are all serious about all things serious, then you're not in the right place. If, however, you're looking for a group of gamers who just love having a blast and generally having a good time, then you've come to a good place.

Allow me to briefly (re)introduce myself. I'm Scott (aka Scav3nger), creator of the Screwed Gamers and former host of the Screwed Gamers Podcast (what a big claim to fame hey?). I've spent the last couple of years rethinking the Screwed Gamers concept and have been helping build a community over at RGL Australia, however when the time came that RGL Australia looked like it was closing down I merged (or assimilated? Depends on your point of view) it into the new Screwed Gamers, completely ignoring whatever concept I had for rebuilding the Screwed Gamers. So welcome to community-on-the-fly! Get used to it, it happens a lot when I'm involved.

We have a few rules, most of which we make up when people do bad stuff, our current rules are as follows:
1) Don't be a prick
2) Enjoy the game(s)
3) Play to win, but play fair, lose honourably and win the next game.
4) Generally, have fun!

If you're from the old guard and wondering when (if) the Screwed Gamers Podcast is coming back? No idea. We'll see what happens.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact a member of the administration team!
