This thread serves to overview the key points of the CANZ Rules and Regulations. All six sections can be read by visiting the page at the link below:

    Rules and Regulations

Each section covers different aspects of racing and the running of CANZ events broken down into different focus areas including (but not limited to) administration, racing, and stewarding.

Section 1 – Key talking points:
    – Racing is open to any driver regardless of skill level. Appropriate competitions for all skill levels are available.
    – Directors reserve the right to postpone or abandon a race event, series, or championship at any time.
    – Any regulations outlined by a series or championship that are in direct conflict with rules and regulations outlined within these Sporting Regulations will take precedence.

Section 2 – Key talking points:
    – Series organiser(s) reserve the right to stipulate the maximum number of entries for each event or championship.
    – Should the number of applicants exceed the series organisers’ maximum number of starters, the organiser may choose to accept entries conditionally. Each competitor will then be regarded as a reserve driver and may compete should a vacancy occur amongst the accepted entries.

Section 3 – Key talking points:
    – It is the responsibility of the competitor to ensure full compliance with the regulations of a series
    – It is the responsibility of the series organiser to ensure clear regulations (should they differ from those outlined herein) are provided to competitors.

Section 4 – Key talking points:
    – At least one (1) timed lap should be completed during either a practice or qualifying session
    – If two or more drivers record equal lap times the first driver to record the time shall take precedence unless handled otherwise by game software.

Section 5 – Key talking points:
    – Upon taking to the grid for a standing start, or commencing the formation lap in a manual or rolling start, the driver shall be considered to have started the race.
    – Drivers are not to enter the pit lane on the final lap of any race and complete the race in the pit lane. Doing so will result in a disqualification.
    – CANZ employs the use of a Safety Car procedure, the full procedure can be seen under section 5.4 SAFETY CAR.
    – Drivers are allowed to make one defensive move. A defensive move is the act of moving off the driver’s current racing line to block a move by a competitor.
    – Excessive weaving on straights to attempt to “break the tow” will be deemed unsportsmanlike and may incur a penalty.
    – Drivers that are approached by a vehicle or vehicles that are preparing to lap them must move off the racing line at the earliest convenience and allow the vehicle(s) to pass unhindered unless the event is a multi-class event (please refer to 5.5.5 for multi-class events). Any intentional blocking, defensive driving, or contact while under blue flags may incur a penalty.
    – At any time vehicles are side-by-side entering a braking zone racing room of a cars width inside the circuit boundaries (white or yellow lines, kerbing is considered outside the boundaries) must be given at all times.
Competitors must show full respect to directors, series organisers, series personnel, and other competitors at all times.
    – Excessive attempts to distract driver(s) by weaving or flashing headlights may result in an unsportsmanlike conduct warning. Excessive warnings may result in a penalty. Cars should only use flashing lights (where available) when in another class approaching slower traffic, or when preparing to lap cars in the same class.

Section 6 – Key talking points:
    – The final say for all penalties are decided by the Series Organiser(s)
    – Appeals may be made within 48 hours of the stewards report being published and must contain suitable grounds for the incident to be reassessed.
    – Exclusions will only be handed out in the most extreme of cases or in the event of repeat offenders
    – A range of penalty types and formats can be viewed under section 6.5

Minor updates to section “5.4 Safety Car”, the following change is being made to 5.4.2-G:

    G) The Series Organiser (or appointed leader) will specify which safety car control location (if multiple) the field will resume from. Once the lead car crosses that line the race resumes. No passing may be done before the start/finish line.

The following clarification is also made under the newly added 5.4.2-H:

The acceleration zone outlined in Stewards Briefings must be adhered to by all drivers. As the lead car you must not accelerate until you are in the acceleration zone. If the lead car accelerates before the AZ they (and any cars who follow) have breached the ruling and will be subject to penalties.

So if the lead driver accelerates in the acceleration zone and the race has restarted, cars behind cant go until they’re in the acceleration zone?

Sorry, I need to clarify that better now that I read it back. It should be worded to suggest that if the lead car jumps before the AZ (like Drifter did on Thursday) the other cars should wait for the AZ otherwise they get penalised too.

Hopefully this wording is better (also edited up above):

The acceleration zone outlined in Stewards Briefings must be adhered to by all drivers. As the lead car you must not accelerate until you are in the acceleration zone. If the lead car accelerates before the AZ they (and any cars who follow) have breached the ruling and will be subject to penalties.
