  A lengthy update
Posted by: Scav3nger - 07-05-2020, 03:18 AM - Forum: Administration News - No Replies

Hi everyone,

I need to post this here as I broke our front-facing website (more on that later).

We've been a bit quiet if you've not been around our Discord lately I'd like to take a few minutes to talk about why that is and what's been going on over the last year or so. There's a TL;DR at the end for those of you whom lack the time to read all the details.

What's the hold up?
The last 12 months or so have been quite a stressful time in the personal lives of the team, I won't speak of the others because that's not for me to discuss but I moved between jobs and had quite a steep learning curve that burned me out from anything outside of just doing that job, I didn't have the time or the motivation to organise events for TSG because I was flat from work. We had spent time trying to put systems in place so some aspects of the community could run themselves or at least have minimal input from us and at least keep things ticking along in case something like this happened but we just missed the mark on getting it in place.

So We Back?
There are some developments taking place, not all behind the scenes if you've been keeping track of things on Discord with a loose plan to return to organised online activities in late July/early August. So we not back yet* but it's coming real soon.

CANZStats and RocketSTATS
Part of the plans when it comes to keeping things formulated to be able to somewhat run themselves has been the establishment of an event/competition management platform. Stats has been a pet project of mine for some time now but we're fast approaching a point where I can start to think about how we can use it to manage our more competitive side of things. Starting, of course, with our racing and Rocket League arms but eventually looking at other games as well. Read on for a brief outline of how each Stats platform will aid us in organising things.

CANZStats
As far as organising series goes, the bulk of the work was in structuring everything and doing the results for rounds. When it came to updating championship standings back when we were Regional Gamers League Online Racing Community, that meant manually updating web pages and tables on forums. Hacking together pages with calendars and dates for events, who to contact with queries and the locations for each event. CANZStats automates the generating of a lot of this content. Admins create championships, add rounds at certain locations on specific dates to those championships, and then enters the results after each round. Championship tables are updated automatically and even factor in reports should points deductions be applied. Individual user profiles also track the users stats as part of their overall career so everyone gets a nice overview of their history with CANZ/RGL and eventually we hope to welcome other series onto the platform for them to be able to track their stats too. We're still in early testing for many features but hope to have an early public test build soon.
(For more info and a history of development check out the #statstalk channel on our Discord)

RocketSTATS
This one is a little more open-ended as thought has only started going into it in the last couple of weeks. As far as automating much of this goes we're taking a slightly different approach. Players register on the platform and start as free agents, they can create a team or apply to join a team. There are two formats of competition, ladder and knockout. When a knockout series is organised the teams apply in a first-in-format, the organiser sets the number of teams and the system will generate a knockout bracket based on the Team Rating's (TR's). A TR is determined by the Win/Loss ratio of the team as well as other factors such as Goals For/Against and average winning margin (how this is calculated is to be determined). A ladder format is the standard format for the platform, over a set period of time (determined at the time of creation) the teams will compete in a ladder tournament attempting to reach the top of the ladder by the end of the "season", similar formats to this limit the number of positions you can challenge above you on the ladder and that will be determined by the organiser. There's a bunch more planning to do here but this is the overview. Players will also earn a Player Rating (PR) for their overall career based on their overall stats as well as Match Ratings (MR) for their performances in individual games. We'll have more to talk about with this as we get closer to launch of the RocketSTATS platform.

CANZ Racing
As many might be aware, initially the name was "CANZ Racing Community" where CANZ stood for "Confederation of Australian and New Zealand Racing". We've changed it up slightly and it's now just "Community of Australian and New Zealand Racing". Not a huge change but for us its a perception that we're targeting a more social racing community with a hint of competitiveness (the Sporting Regulations aren't going anywhere) but nothing over the top serious, at least not to start out with. Once we build the community back up we can explore how we organise things.

Socials
Social nights have always formed a big part of the community aspect of TSG, now that a few of us have streaming capable connections (cheers NBN) socials are going to form an integral part of the rebuild phase of TSG's community, so keep an eye out for announcements of upcoming social nights here, Discord, and our social media!

Minecraft
The realm has been reborn! Jump on our Discord or contact me for an invite!

TL;DR:
Life got in the way, motivation was down but we almost back. There's some Rocket League, Racing, Socials and STATS galore coming! Minecraft is here now though!

[Forza 7] February 21st Social Night
Posted by: Scav3nger - 02-02-2019, 10:27 AM - Forum: Social Nights and One-off Events - Replies (2)

Hey everyone,

Given this year is the first year we are able to open the CANZ Championship Series on Forza to PC players there's a bit of testing that needs to be done. As a resident PC and Xbox player I would like to organise test nights between now and season start to make sure any PC players that wish to join will be able to do so and maintain our previous levels of community engagement (pre/post race discussion and in-race communication).

The second test will be on February 21st. I will commence lobby hosting on PC at 8:30pm AEDT and will be prepared with the following methods of communication:
Xbox App running on PC
In-Game voice chat on PC

Xbox One party
Xbox One In-Game voice chat

Last time (the 31st) it was only Drifter and I so we jumped in the Endurance GT lobby and did some publobby racing. I couldn't get party chat to work on PC and in-game chat would only send my voice not receive others. So definitely need to try some more settings to see if I can get it working.

See you (hopefully more of you) on the 21st! This will probably be our last one before the season starts too, so I'd like to get some pre-season footage in V8's (they don't have to be final liveries if you're not ready to show them off yet, just something placeholder for your team).

Slightly Mad have gone Fully Mad, plan to release their own console
Posted by: Scav3nger - 01-05-2019, 05:50 AM - Forum: Off Topic - No Replies

Slightly Mad Studios, developers of Need for Speed: Shift ( and Shift 2) along with the Project CARS series has announced plans to release the Mad Box. A new console aimed at providing VR experiences for sim gamers like no other console is capable of.

In an interview with Variety, Slight Mad studio head Ian Bell said:

Quote:“It’s the most powerful console ever built… It’s literally ‘Mad’… You want 4k, you want VR at 60FPS? You want a full engine for free to develop your games on it? You have it.”

https://variety.com/2019/gaming/news/ian...203097617/

Gamespot got a glimpse of the early design of the Mad Box recently:
https://www.gamespot.com/articles/first-...0-6464167/

Honestly, as I said in the thread title, they've gone full mad if they think they can take on Xbox and Sony with this. It's essentially a Steam Machine (and we know how well that worked out don't we?) that is just going to be a prebuilt gaming PC. And let's be realistic, the software development aspects of SMS's recent developments have left a bit to be desired to trust them with the development of an operating system for a gaming "console".

But hey, at least it wasn't the guys that developed ATLAS or Ark announcing this... Not that it makes this announcement a good thing. Because I think this "console" will go the way of the Ouya and the Dreamcast.

  CANZ SC|19 Championship Series
Posted by: Scav3nger - 11-19-2018, 03:58 AM - Forum: CANZ Series Discussion - Replies (9)

This thread is for registration and discussion for the CANZ SC|19 Championship Series.

18 Rounds. 42 Races. Boatloads of points!

http://screwedgamers.com/canz-racing/can...ip-series/

Please remember to note requirements regarding team names and verified TEC entries as per the regulations:

Quote:2.1 Team Entitlements Contract (TEC):

CANZ employs a system of TEC’s. TEC’s represent the ability for independent or privateer teams to form recognised teams for the CANZ championship season and compete for the teams championship. Any new member of the CANZ Racing Community will enter as a privateer unless joining a team with an existing TEC.

Important details to note:
(a) Teams can be created at any time, but the TEC must be in place prior to commencement of a championship.
(b) Only one TEC is required for a team to compete in championships on any game as long as the team name remains the same. Any change to a TEC registered team name in-season will result in a loss of all points for that team.
© Sale of a TEC is strictly against the rules (anyone who experiences or hears of another party attempting to sell a TEC for any payment, especially real money, should contact a member of administration immediately).
(d) TEC’s must be unique and cannot be based on realistic team names or those from other racing games (i.e. Red Bull Racing, Triple 8, Auricom, etc) this includes derivative teams inspired by these teams. Real life branding is permitted in liveries but team names must be unique.

Registrations (in order of registration):
#17 Scav3nger - Second Degree Racing (TEC-SDR) - #22 Holden Commodore
#1 CrashCaderz - AusGear Motorsport (TEC-AGM) - TBA
#55 Woebegone6 - TBA - TBA

  2019
Posted by: Scav3nger - 10-19-2018, 01:01 AM - Forum: Administration News - No Replies

Hello Everyone,

The last 8-10 months have been very quiet, we've lost a bit of momentum as I took some time off to focus on a course I was doing. We're back in business now though. Gearing up for a new year and getting things back on track. Starting with laying out the plan for 2019.

As you can already see, we're back on the old forums. We've lost a little bit of content as the website with the 2018 forums broke during the year and I couldn't recover the content. Hence the main website saying it's undergoing maintenance. That's a good thing though because there's a few changes on that front I was looking to implement for next year anyway so a mostly fresh start (I've got all the posts from the old website so it look like a wasteland when the new site is first up and running) will be a good thing.

With that, let's take a look at what's happening.

Over on our Discord some discussion has been starting up again, looking at where we're going with CANZ next year (more on that below) as well as discussion in the Inner Sanctum with some of our core community on our direction and focus moving forward. So far we've looked at our focus for 2019 being a return to our Forza roots with a 2019 CANZ Supercars series. We toyed with the idea of a GT series but the workload involved with balancing the GT cars into spec with the current size of the racing community meant the Supercars was the more straight forward series to get the ball rolling again. We will be reassessing in 2020 the options for the mainline series.

We've briefly touched on Rocket League. It will be returning in some form but just not sure how at this time.

Social games will become much more of a focus too, with a key interest being easy drop-in-drop-out games on both PC and Xbox. Minecraft is an obvious choice as we can have a server running all the time. And yes, GTA or Red Dead may also be on that list (though I personally don't have RDR2 on my list of games I'm looking at). Though the social aspect and nature of it means that these are things that can be organised at any time and not necessarily by us, it could be anyone in the community organising these events on any game!

So get involved in the discussion and help us gear up for a powerful 2019!

  2017 Gaming wishlist

Another year, another thousand or so games coming out.....which ones are on your wish list?

For me I have two on the radar and that's about it:

Sea of Thieves
State of Decay 2

The latter is locked in, especially with co-op game play - hoping to organise a crew that will join me and stream gameplay regularly, provided I can spare the time....haha

Sea of Thieves is subject to reviews etc upon release.

Wait and see what others post which may pique my interest.
