  2017 Series Test Night - November 3rd
Posted by: Scav3nger - 08-24-2016, 03:49 AM - Forum: Social Nights and One-off Events - Replies (21)

On November 3rd we'll be holding a series test night for 2017 and the final two rounds of the Muscle Car Masters. We may also do some social racing if we cover everything quickly enough.

On the night we will be testing the following for viability and racing quality:
GT3/GTE, understandably some vehicles on this list would probably require balancing, the idea is to determine how much work would be involved.
Formula Ford, likely a support series
Classic F1 using the 1976 vehicles
TCC using any vehicle from the STCC, WTCC, or BTCC
RS200's, an old classic
Modern Hatchback, using any C class hatchback
Bring Your Own (A Class) Series
Mini Cooper Classic
MX-5 Cup
CotF 2.0 (would require a bit of work bringing some cars up to spec and getting them balanced, but I think we'd manage it if we worked together)

I've personally made the decision to remove modern Formula 1 and IndyCar's from the list as these vehicles are easily damaged and not very fun to drive when damaged.

We won't be using V8's on the night because we already know the kind of racing we get out of those, this is purely to see if we can find anything that can out-do them (plus looking at a few support ideas too).

  2017 Changes To The Website
Posted by: Scav3nger - 08-21-2016, 10:06 AM - Forum: Administration News - Replies (15)

Hello Everyone.

Just want to drop this here to keep everyone up to date on the latest progress with the website side of things.

In 2017 there'll be a couple of changes rolling out. Firstly, and heavily involving, CANZ. The current subsite was to serve a purpose I feel was not adequately being used for that purpose, increasingly people continue to ask, either directly or indirectly, when an event is taking place and at what time despite that information being available and, in the case of start times, fairly consistent. So canz.screwedgamers.com in it's current format will be closed down at years end, with all news and articles to do with CANZ to now be featured on the main website along with Soccar/Rocket League and general community posts. We'll work in a better structure for all the content on the homepage while we're at it because it's been a bit of a mess this year.

canz.screwedgamers.com will then relaunch as the CANZstats section of the website. When the system is ready.

Also when the system is ready, soccar.screwedgamers.com will also launch, and will be the home of all the Soccar Championship information and stats aside from news which will continue to appear on the homepage.

These changes are all somewhat dependant on the Stats parts of the site being set up, but consolodating all the news onto the one site at the start of 2017 is a part of the plan we can execute in the meantime. As always anyone that is interested in contributing to content (even if it's just taking a few screenshots for news articles) is more than welcome to get in touch with myself or z00lu.

[SCS] Stewards Briefing - Round 8
Posted by: Scav3nger - 08-17-2016, 12:59 AM - Forum: CANZ Stewarding Centre - No Replies

Round 8, Circuit Zolder, Stewards Briefing
August 18th, 2016

Teams and drivers are advised of the following information contained within:
Qualifying Procedure
Starting Procedure

Pit Entry and Exit

All information contained in this stewards briefing is created with the purpose of ensuring we have stable events, so CANZ administrators appreciate that everyone follows this information along with adhering to the CANZ sporting regulations.

Qualifying Procedure:
For round 8 we will be running a one-lap shootout qualifying in reverse championship order. We will start with the GT3's and then the LMP2's. As per our last shootout the following should be observed:
The car that is on track will complete one out-lap, one flying lap, and one in-lap.
The car that is next due on track will commence their out-lap after the current car commences their flying lap
Anyone on their in-lap caught by a car on their flying lap must clear the racing line, any incidents of blocking will result in a penalty.

Always keep note of who has qualified ahead of you in your class so you know who to start behind at the start of the race. It is your responsibility to keep note of this otherwise you may need to start from the back of the field.

Starting Procedure:
The first lap of the race will be consumed for the rolling start to allow runners to get into their positions in LMP/GT groups (having previously noted who they are to start behind), the LMP field will lead the group at a safe speed around the installation lap and will form into 2x2 out of the last corner for the race start and reduce speed to 60kph to group the field up.

The pole position driver will control the field, the circuit will be considered green out of the last corner of the circuit and the pole position driver may chose to start the race at any point between the exit of the last corner and the start/finish line, at this point the race will start regardless of if the pole position driver has accellerated or not.

Pit Entry and Exit:
As always pit entry and exit must be communicated with surrounding drivers to ensure no incidents arise as a result of a vehicle heading into or out of the pit lane.

Thanks guys, have a good race!

  [V8SC] Stewards Briefing - Round 7
Posted by: Scav3nger - 08-14-2016, 03:10 AM - Forum: CANZ Stewarding Centre - Replies (5)

Round 7, Circuit of the Americas West Layout, Stewards Briefing
August 25th, 2016

Teams and drivers are advised of the following information contained within:
Qualifying Procedure
Starting Procedure
Corner Cutting and Track Extending Ruling(s)
Pit Entry and Exit

All information contained in this stewards briefing is created with the purpose of ensuring we have stable events, so CANZ administrators appreciate that everyone follows this information along with adhering to the CANZ sporting regulations.

Qualifying Procedure:
Qualifying for Round 7 of the CANZ V8 Supercars series will be a timed session of 10 minutes. No shootout session or group split will be required for this circuit. Please spread yourselves out on circuit to avoid dirtying others laps through drafting.

Starting Procedure:
For the first race, a standard start will be used. Should a reverse grid race be run, a standing manual start will be used to set grid positions.

Corner Cutting and Track Extending:
For this circuit, the cutting is being granted an "acceptable line" giving driver permission to run over the kerbing as shown in the following picture:

Drivers are permitted to straight-line this chicane, but must not cut the following corner leading onto the end of full circuit back straight.

Pit Entry and Exit:

For pit entry, please communicate early that you will be entering the pits as it does break off from the racing line rather rapidly and may see drivers slowing towards pit entry. As always you cannot pit at the end of the first lap unless you have damage, and you must not pit on the last lap and finish the race in the pit lane.

Any drivers that abort a pit entry and go through the gap between the tyre barrier and the pit wall will be given an immediate 10 point penalty for unsafe pit entry.

For pit exit, remain inside the white line until it ends heading up the hill.

Any questions, pop them below!

  Game and console update notifications
Posted by: z00lu - 08-10-2016, 06:42 AM - Forum: Community Noticeboard - Replies (8)

As per discussions since the issues experienced last night, if anyone is aware of game and/or console updates, post the info here to help everyone avoid getting caught out at the most crucial times!

Eg.

Console update
Size: 423mb
Released: approx Monday, August 8th

Obviously those with their consoles set to instant on, will also likely have all updates automatically downloaded in the background, but not all of us do.

Also with the recent console update, you can now check for games and app updates to avoid some surprises. Hopefully if people post info here it will help to reduce the likelihood of getting caught out.

  [V8SC] Stewards Report - Round 6
Posted by: Scav3nger - 07-29-2016, 03:33 PM - Forum: CANZ Stewarding Centre - Replies (6)

As there was no stewards briefing for Round 6 I'm proceeding to the stewards report here.

Incident Log for Round 6:

Round 6, Infraction #1
Car #2 (MRN3Drifter) has received a further 5 point penalty for number box infringement, the driver is again referred to the following: http://screwedgamers.com/forums/showthread.php?tid=52 which clearly states:

Quote:With all number boxes you must use the box provided and not alter it in any way. This is a CANZ-wide requirement for consistent number box design across all cars. This is our promotional material, the only one we will ever force on our drivers, your coorporation in adhering to these requirements is appreciated.

Round 6, Infraction #2
Incident involving Cars #86 (hyboi) and #67 (Clasified Hunter) on lap 15 of race 1 was investigated post race. Though no video evidence of the incident was able to be analysed (thanks to Forza's still useless replay system), a proper ruling and penalty could not be determined, however, the loss of position for Car #86 as a result of the incident has declared a penalty be applied. Under CANZ Sporting Regulation Article 5.5.4:

Quote:Drivers that are approached by a vehicle or vehicles that are preparing to lap them must move off the racing line at the earliest convenience and allow the vehicle(s) to pass unhindered

The issue of minimap dots and their appearance for vehicles that are not on the same lap is a valid concern, however, this incident occured with the third vehicle on the lead lap. Car #17 and Car #2 had already passed and lapped Car #67 while stopped at the second chicane (turns 4 and 5), but the subsequent attempt by Car #86 to pass the lapped vehicle caused a loss of both time and position at a stage where Car #67 should have noted that faster cars were lapping. The stewards have declared a 10 point penalty be applied to Car #67, and make it clear that the penalty could have been worse if sufficient video evidence was available.

  2017 Structure and Changeup Discussion
Posted by: Scav3nger - 07-24-2016, 02:47 PM - Forum: CANZ News - Replies (29)

I said this discussion would be starting after Bathurst so here we go.

2016 has been a pretty successful year I would say. We've had our moments but overall it's been good. There are a few things for us to look into which we will be doing over the course of the next few months as we wind down 2016, so let's take a look at a few of these things now.

First things first is scheduling. I have been discussing with z00lu the options for 2017 revolving around our ability to leave space for other programs while still keeping our racing fairly regular. We have come up with one option, and I have one alternative I've come up with but not put a great deal of thought into at this stage.

The format we have come up with (Option A) is racing every first and third Thursday of the month between March and November. This would effectively mean one race a month for Forza and pCARS respectively. 9 rounds each respectively pretty much as it was this year but fixed to the first and third Thursday's of the month as opposed to roughly every three weeks (aside from around the endurance rounds). Under this format March 2017 would look like:
2nd - Forza, Round 1
9th - Other Game
16th - Project CARS, Round 1
23rd - Other Game
30th - Other Game
Apr 6th - Forza, Round 2

The alternative (Option B) I've thought up (rather hastily I must point out) is racing open to every week EXCEPT the third Thursday (and the fifth if there is one) with the first week being Forza and alternating titles. At this stage it will only be Forza and pCARS. So, for example, March 2017 would be
2nd - Forza, Round 1
9th - Project CARS, Round 1
16th - Other game
23rd - Forza, Round 2
30th - Other game
Apr 6th - Forza, Round 3

As you can see the options mean more Forza rounds under Option B, Project CARS would remain the same and stick to one round per month under both options. This is a discussion we'll be able to have in the coming months, we do not need to rush into a decision.

Now, the other big talking point is the racing itself. I'm not 100% content with how SCS has played out this year, the format was good but we just didn't have the numbers to make a multi-class championship work. So for 2017 SCS will be given a rest, and the mainline series will be put to a vote for its replacement for 2017. In company with this, however, we will also be putting to vote the 2017 Forza series as we have several options already available to us. Look for these as we approach our 2017 test night in October.

Lastly for 2017 on Forza we'll be introducing a series of new number boxes to provide more options to better match liveries. At this time there's no solid design information but we'll likely have the basics (white, black, blue, red, yellow, green). Keep an eye on the Number Box and CANZ vinyls thread for updates on this later in the year.

I know we still have a few rounds (and a number of months) left in 2016, but I'd like to start the discussion on this now so we have everything in order.
